Peggy Fleming, President of GACC California, enjoyed a private campus tour with Mark J. Ballam, Managing Director for San Diego State University’s Center for International Business Education and Research. Of particular interest were the Alumni Center and, of course, the much talked about new Aztec Student Union Building which is still under construction (see photo). Although not even finished, the building is already receiving much national attention for two reasons: It is a state-of-the-art LEED Platinum-certified building AND it is funded entirely by a student-approved fee increase and receives no state funding support.
Ms. Fleming also met with representatives from the International Business Department because SDSU has a long-year history with German academic institutions and companies. The exchange takes place both ways – American students going to Germany and vice versa. As an example, students from the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences/ Department of Automotive and Aeronautical Engineering have come to SDSU for a semester abroad for many years. And, in September 2013, SDSU will yet again serve as a stop for the annual 3-week excursion of students and faculty of Hamburg University of Applied Sciences to get an insight and feel of what it means to study here.
