On Wednesday, September 17, GACC California met with German students and their U.S. host companies at the Westgate Hotel in Downtown San Diego. These dialogues are essential to GACC California. In attendance were the director, Peter Meisen, and two young professionals from Germany, Mona and Atefe, from the Global Energy Network Institute (GENI) as well as two participants from our Internship Placement Program who are currently interning in San Diego, Mirko and Tanja. After lunch at the Westgate, we took a tour of the World Resources Sim Center, a unique space in downtown San Diego which is a project of GENI. Through a visual demonstration as well as discussion, we learned about Mona and Atefe’s internship research project at GENI, a comparison of renewable energy policies in Germany and California. As two leaders in environmental policy, Germany and California have taken different approaches to encourage an increase in renewable energy, both of which have been successful. It’s certainly a cause which is very relevant to the GACC California and we enjoyed learning about this exciting research. To join future roundtables, please contact Amy at amy@gaccca.org.
