Joe Panetta is an extremely influential part of the Life-Science industry in California and in January, 2014 California’s Governor Jerry Brown recommended Mr. Panetta as a governing board member of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine’s Independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee. Among many other ground breaking initiatives, this committee monitors and directs the California based $3 billion stem cell research program. Furthermore, Joe Panetta is the President and CEO of BIOCOM – a highly respected renowned Life-Science organization with 600 members worldwide. BIOCOM focuses on the expansion of Life Science industries in this particular vicinity yet emphasizes its readiness to further develop and distribute their innovative products internationally as they want to guarantee the improvement of the consumers’ health and therefore quality of life. Mr. Panetta also is in charge of a “Purchasing Group” that offers BIOCOM memberships products and services and generates an annual budget of over $40M. Furthermore, he is a co-founder of the “Political Action Committee” of BIOCOM and a board member of the UCSD Connect and the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation. Currently he is focusing on the efficiency of the FDA-approval process, opportunities to work with China, increasing the capital funds for the San Diego region and securing the availability of a specialized workforce in Southern California.
Prof. Dr. Thilo Hoelscher, MD, is the scientific founder of the stroke care system, the BURL Device, and isa board certified Neurologist and a highly respected clinical expert in the field of stroke, sonothrombolysis, neuroprotection, blood-brain barrier opening, local drug delivery, and neuro-degenerative diseases. Dr. Hoelscher is one of the world’s foremost authorities on the use of focused ultrasound in the dissolution of intravascular clot in the treatment of stroke. He has been instrumental in developing a comprehensive road map for the pre-clinical studies necessary to complete before beginning pilot clinical trials in patients. Further, he is a professor at University of California San Diego, Departments of Radiology and Neurosciences, the founder of the UCSD Brain Ultrasound Research Laboratory and a member of the Center of Medical Devices, UCSD Institute of Engineering in Medicine. Dr. Hoelscher has teamed up with entrepreneur superstar, Dr. Jim Brailean to create BURL Concepts.
