Student Life in the U.S.

AmericanDreamGETTYThe typical student in the United States is fundamentally different from European Universities. Students often take some long commutes to school by car, bus or bicycle in Europe. In the U.S., students live on campus or nearby. This means not only the advantage of saving time in the morning, but also a world of social network and university life. The close contact with the other students allows a large exchange between international and domestic students, which makes it possible to improve language skills. Attending sporting events or frat parties are just some of the leisure activities. Life in the USA is generally characterized by its international charm, which is also reflected in the academic system.
The land of opportunity attracts annually around 525,000 international students. The United States was in 2010, host to nearly 10,000 German students since 2007 and is the number one host country for German graduate students. At the same time, the U.S. is also among German students for the top 5 most popular countries for study abroad.

San Diego, America’s Finest City

columbiaWith approximately 3 million residents in the San Diego Metropolitan area, San Diego is the second largest city in California. The recreational life is very high with many beaches and sports teams.
With more than 300 sunny days per year, San Diego maintains its reputation as the epitome of relaxed California lifestyle. The 110-km long coast of San Diego County has countless beaches for swimming and surfing.
San Diego is the birthplace of modern California. 1769 founded the Spaniards here on a large natural harbor and a fort the Mission San Diego de Alcalá. The restored adobe buildings from the Spanish Time in the Old Town are protected as a state park. The historic Gaslamp Quarter District, originally called New Town, was created in 1857 by Alonzo Horton, who wanted to bring the city closer to the sea.
Mission Bay, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, Coronado – the list of suburbs bordered by water is long. And everywhere there are sandy beaches, bike paths, outdoor cafes and much loose vitality. Particularly well shown by the Southern California lifestyle in the northern suburb of La Jolla, which is located on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
